Crab Island….
Posted by: | CommentsEvery morning before I do anything else I read my favorite blogs about Destin. This morning I came across a new blog about “Crab Island”. Crab Island is around the corner from the harbor in Destin. It’s a beautiful place where the water is the most amazing color and crystal clear. When you cross the Destin bridge you can look over and see tons of boats anchored there having boat parties. It is such a popular place they have waterside service with drinks and food delivered right to your boat. You will frequently see and hear bands playing on floating pontoons converted to stages. It is just an awesome place to go and celebrate life.
When I was deciding what to make with my newest bead I was thinking of all the fun everyone must be having there today. Dancing and laughing and all the brightly colored clothing swaying in the wind. These images in my head were brought to life in my newest necklace “Island Party”. I hope you like it.
I need you now…
Posted by: | CommentsI love music. Lately I’ve been listening to a new song by Lady Antebellum called “I Need You Now”. When I was stringing “Gulfstream” I was listening to the song and when she sang “I need you now” all I could think of was Destin….lol. I NEED YOU NOW! I know, I know I bet you think I talk way too much about the Emerald Coast. Maybe I do to those that have never been there. But once you go you will understand :)
As promised…
Posted by: | CommentsToday has been extremely hard for me. I’m missing Destin, Florida really bad. To help me get back there at least in my head I went to the studio and created two pieces of jewelry. The interesting thing is both are bracelets. I don’t make many bracelets. I don’t know why, I just don’t. But today for some reason bracelets are what I chose to make. I keep closing my eyes and seeing that gorgeous aqua blue water. My first bracelet is nearly a perfect match to the Emerald Coast of Florida waters.
My second bracelet was created to celebrate the sea life that lies under those beautiful aqua blue waters. This bracelet has one large focal bead. It is such a beautiful bead I didn’t want anything to distract from it. Both of these bracelets are available for your wearing pleasure in my Etsy store.
I’m back from paradise…
Posted by: | CommentsLast week I decided that my hubby and I needed to take a break and go back to our favorite place in the world, Destin, Florida. The past 6 months have been extremely stressful for both of us. As some of you may know, my husband had surgery to remove one-third of his foot due to cancer. His recovery has been long and hard. He is just learning how to walk again.
Our trip was very short, just three days in Destin, but it was worth every minute of the 15 hour drive. Now I’m back and refreshed and I can’t wait to get to the studio to translate those images in my head into jewelry. Keep an eye out, I’ve got some beautiful goodies coming!
My favorite time of the year…
Posted by: | CommentsSpring and Fall have always been my favorite times of the year. In the Spring I feel alive and I want to run and play. Today I wanted to get in my car and run to Destin, Florida. I hear the surf from here. I can feel the hot sand between my toes. I’m such a dreamer. I guess I shouldn’t complain about dreaming. My daydreams are what leads me to create. Today my dreaming led to this necklace. This is my interpretation of the shifting sands and the beautiful aqua blue water they touch. I chose to make this necklace more on the simple side. I wanted the focal bead to shine and share it’s space with freshwater pearls. I really love the outcome. It’s available to adorn your neck on Etsy.
The sun is setting….
Posted by: | CommentsIt’s that time of the day in Texas when the sun starts to set. Living in Texas all my life I believed Texas had the most beautiful sunsets, but that all changed when I went to the Emerald Coast of Florida. Last October my husband and I celebrated our 19th wedding anniversary at Pompano Joes in Destin, Florida. Pompanos sits right on the beach. We dined outside and watched the sun go down in the west over the beautiful turquoise blue water. It was an amazing site. I was in heaven :). Yummy seafood, the two loves of my life, Destin and my hubby what else could I ask for? This necklace was created from my memories of that evening and the gorgeous colors of the ocean and sky. This necklace is available in my Etsy shop so you can own a piece of the Destin sunset.
Something different for me…
Posted by: | CommentsI hardly ever make earrings. Don’t ask me why, I just don’ make many. That is until today! I had so much fun making these Gypsy dazzlers I may be making a ton of earrings in the future. I made some sterling silver bead caps and gave them a rich patina for these dichroic balls of glass. The beads are 1/2 inch in diameter. You can get all the details on Etsy where they are listed to sale.
It’s beyond blue…
Posted by: | CommentsToday was a beautiful day. We were in the mid 70′s and it felt wonderful. The sun was nice and bright and the birds were singing. After running a few errands in town, which by the way, is 17 miles from me, I came back to the studio to do a little work. I was rummaging through my little black velvet lined box of solo beads and came across one of my favorites. I made this bead a year or so ago after my second trip to Florida. I had planned on making a set of these beads but I never did. I held onto the the one bead thinking it was beautiful enough to hold its own. I had been wanting to make this neat copper bail that popped into my head this week so I paired the two together. I love the outcome.
This piece is up for grabs on Etsy. Let me know what you think.
It’s about time…
Posted by: | CommentsI know I know… It seems like it has been forever since I posted. I hope you can understand. I don’t like it at all. I miss not having blog and studio time. But, there is a light at the end of this tunnel. Life is getting better and my hubby is starting to get around a little on his own so all is well. I’m finding more time to get out to the studio and that means more blog time is on its way too. Today I put together some pendants. When I had my storefront I sold a ton of these pendants on leather cords. I couldn’t make them fast enough. My customers would buy 5 and 6 at a time. I think the reason they sold so well is their simplistic beauty. You have a simple leather cord that matches the pendant perfectly and the pendants are all to die for. You can either leave the pendant on the leather cord or remove the cord and put the pendant on a chain of some sort. Either way these are simple, beautiful and VERY affordable. You can check them out in my Etsy store.
It’s been a long 3 weeks…
Posted by: | CommentsI know its been several days since I updated my blog and I’m truly sorry. These past 3 weeks with my husband depending on me for all his needs due to his partial foot amputation has been rough. Between caring for him and my zoo of animals I’ve had little time to do anything else. I’ve been able to list a few new items on Etsy, but not very many and I apologize. Tomorrow we go for his first follow-up since his surgery. If everything goes well the stitches will be removed and he will be put into a walking cast. If things don’t go as planned he will be put into another cast and we will have several more weeks of him being pretty much immobile. We are both praying for the walking cast. I’m hoping with both fingers crossed that we can both get back to our normal lives soon. I’m missing melting glass…….
