It’s been a long 3 weeks…

Posted by: admin | Comments (0)

I know its been several days since I updated my blog and I’m truly sorry. These past 3 weeks with my husband depending on me for all his needs due to his partial foot amputation has been rough. Between caring for him and my zoo of animals I’ve had little time to do anything else. I’ve been able to list a few new items on Etsy, but not very many and I apologize. Tomorrow we go for his first follow-up since his surgery. If everything goes well the stitches will be removed and he will be put into a walking cast. If things don’t go as planned he will be put into another cast and we will have several more weeks of him being pretty much immobile. We are both praying for the walking cast. I’m hoping with both fingers crossed that we can both get back to our normal lives soon. I’m missing melting glass…….

A Little Something…

Posted by: admin | Comments (1)

I got to escape to my studio today for a few hours. I put together this charming necklace. I had made some light, airy hollows a few days ago so I paired them with some freshwater pearls, Swarovski crystals and copper. I love the end result. This is my interpretation of floating jellyfish. This necklace is available for purchase.

Slowly, but surely…

Posted by: admin | Comments (0)

I’m sorry for the delays in postings. I hope you can understand and keep with me :) I’ve had a few hours in the studio this week. I’m finishing up a couple of new necklaces and working on some more copper cuffs. It’s slow going right now.

My dear hubby is doing better, but he still needs most of my time during the day and night. We are both hopeful at his next Doctor’s visit he will be put into a walking cast. It’s touch and go. I’m ready to get back to the studio full time and he is ready to walk again. The cast will have to be on another 3-4 weeks then it will be rehab. The road to recovery.

I hope your weekend is full of peace and joy…

Something old, something new…

Posted by: admin | Comments (0)

I haven’t had much time in the studio these past several weeks. I try to sneak out there when I can and create. Today I found time to put together a necklace using one of my favorite beads from a few years ago. I’d held onto this bead because I could never quite decide  what would showcase its incredible beauty the most. When I picked it up today out of my goodie box it hit me. Simple…all it needed was something simple for a perfect pairing.  I love the simplicity of this necklace and the statement it makes. It’s available now for purchase.

Studio time…

Posted by: admin | Comments (0)

I’ve been missing my time in the studio since my husbands surgery. Today I found some studio time and I created another piece of jewelry that showcases my love for the ocean. I’ve never been to the tropics, but I have seen plenty of photos showing the incredible flowers that flourish in those areas. I’m always amazed at how large they are and their breathtaking colors. I wanted to take one of those beautiful flowers and pair it with Mother of Pearl daggers. It just so happened I had purchased these gorgeous  Mother of Pearl daggers a few months ago on a trip. I had been waiting for the perfect place to utilize them. I paired them up with a sculptural flower I had made using traditional stained glass methods. Together they look awesome. With Spring slowly creeping up on us, I can just imagine how fabulous this necklace will look with white linen….yummy.  This necklace is available for purchase.

While I’m away…

Posted by: admin | Comments (0)

Next week I should be back to normal hours in the studio and normal posting. As some of you know, my husband had to have a partial amputation of his foot this week. I’m not able to leave his side for very long at a time and that makes going to the studio next to impossible. I’m hoping by next week I will be able to steal a few hours here and there and get some new pieces created.

In the meantime, I have a wonderful site for you to go visit. I know you hear me talking about the “Emerald Coast” in many of my posts. It is my ultimate goal to live there in the near future. I have always been a Texas girl and I once thought I would live here forever. WRONG! After visiting the Destin, Florida area two years ago I have never been the same. I never imagined seeing water so blue and sand so white and people so nice!  It is nearly surreal. The area is as close to paradise as  possible here on earth. In my search for a way to stay close to Destin until I could get back, I found a wonderful website that every two weeks has a new podcast with all the sites, sounds and happenings around Destin. Its creator Harley Van Hyning is just awesome. He has the innate ability to bring Destin to you where you feel you are there. His insights into the happenings in the area are whimsical at times and he always brings a smile to my  face. On top of all this, he features local musicians. His podcast is a refreshing ocean breeze on those days when life has got the best of you. Please take time to check his website and podcast. You won’t regret it. There is a permanent link to his website under my Blogroll on the right.

(The above picture is one from my first vacation in Destin. I wanted you to see how beautiful and clear the water is and you don’t have to travel to the tropics to find paradise.)

I hate to cut this post short, but I have to attend to my darling hubby. I will see you soon!

Away for awhile…

Posted by: admin | Comments (0)

I don’t like posting about too many personal events in my life. I know everyone has their own personal problems and trials without me adding to them with mine. I just wanted to let everyone know that I won’t be posting much this next week. My darling husband, my soulmate, my love is having a toe and partial foot amputation tomorrow. What started out as a simple ingrown toenail has turned into a nightmare for him and myself. I would greatly appreciate any prayers you may offer for him.

I hope to talk to you soon.

Missing the ocean…

Posted by: admin | Comments (1)

It snowed today. Now it’s cold and dreary and all I can think of is the “Emerald Coast” of Florida. The sugar white sand, the undulating turquoise water and the serenity I feel when I’m there. I know, I’m obsessed with the ocean, but I just can’t help myself. My soul aches for the water and all it’s life. Today when I was in my studio I wanted to make something to bring me close to the sea. I was thinking about all the treasures that have been lost and lie somewhere on the ocean floor. I pulled together some of my favorite lampwork beads and created “Shipwreck”.  I really love the tangled copper balls. I wish I could claim all the credit for them, but last night while reading my new book similar beads were used with polymer clay. I loved the look so I’ve incorporated them into my design. This necklace is really gorgeous on the bronze leather cord. The blue focal bead against the copper and its patina is stunning.

I’m loving this book…

Posted by: admin | Comments (4)

I absolutely love books. I don’t think there is a week that goes by that I don’t purchase several magazines. I’ve already bought every bead/jewelry related magazine I could get my hands on for this month, so yesterday I had to look in the hardbacks to feed my soul. There it was a beautiful graduated grey slick cover with the most gorgeous polymer clay beads on it. The beads on it looked like I could have made them. They were just my style. Contemporary and organic, sort of out of the ordinary. Oh my gosh I had to have it. How could I walk out of the bookstore without this book being mine? I had been wanting to add polymer clay to my  jewelry. So needless to say, the book came home with me.  Tonight I’m getting ready to open the pages of this beautiful book and just enjoy. Books are like my drug of choice. When I feel stressed or down I just grab a book about jewelry, beads or the ocean and all is well :)

Btw, if you want to know what book I bought come back tomorrow and I’ll tell you!
